Funuke: Show Some Love, You Losers! is a japanese dark comedy with everything from knife-fights to incestuous love triangles. It centers around a dysfunctional family reunited by the death of their parents, who were hit by a truck during a panic to save a cat. it sort of reminded me of The Royal Tenenbaums, with the siblings being thrown together despite their huge grievances, which become apparent as the film progresses: The charm of the quiet small town is completely lost on failed actress and part-time prossie Sumika; Kyomi is reserved and observant, expressing her anger and family secrets through gruesome manga cartoons; Machiko and Shinji maintain a loveless marriage, made worse by Shinji's alcoholism and money problems.
As the plot progresses in ever-varying directions, you find yourself becoming completely engrossed in this family's unhappy existence, and its worth watching if only for the crazy manga-themed climax.
